Where did one of the earliest known city revitalization projects take place?
One of the earliest known projects included the rebuilding of the wall of Jerusalem in Israel and restoring the homes within it. It was led by a man named Nehemiah, a “high official in the Persian court of King Artaxerxes I” in 445 BC. He was sent by the king to complete the project after hearing of the distress the people and city had endured and was appointed as a “provincial governor of Judah”. Through a number of conflicts and hardships the large scale restoration program was completed in record time, only 52 days.
